Putting it Together
Heading it together putting it together eso we've touched on your dreams your skill set your interests, your personality type your truth, your career fairytales, your values, your proudest moments why your friends and family keep you around on and on and on and on we've done so much here in the last three sessions and now it's time to tie it all up with mission magnificent a manifesto this is part elevator picture part mission statement part answer to what I call the dreaded question, which is so what do you d'oh that just leaves us especially if where if we're in a career that we don't like and we like it makes us feel really bad telling other people what we do because it's not a good representation of who we are and what we can achieve what's important to us and I think it's even harder when we're doing something on the side because we're like do I tell them what I do for riel a k for money or but I should tell them about what I do on the side and then it just turns out to be this ju...
mble in your mouth and you don't make sense and you know you don't leave a good impression so besides using it as really like a script and a compass, I think it's going to help you also reinforce the career idea that you have had for yourself or open you up? Maybe to something else that might be on the list that you maybe you put aside, that you want to look at again, it's also going to give you kind of more of the bigger meaning behind what you want to do and it's gonna act as a compass for your career decisions. So a former client of mine that I mentioned all the way in the first session was fourth faith cornwall. Her biggest thing she took away from us working together was her mission statement. And so she used just that one sentence that she wanted to help women get back in touch with their bodies through dance and touch and movement that allowed her to become a massage therapist and a yoga teacher. And now she just launched a site called the yaks troiani dot com that the tagline is, if it hurts down there, come over here so women with public pain, yak troiani, dot com and just that mission statement guided her through what's next what's next what's next what's next for her. So now that I really built this up here, the questions that you need to complete this mission and this is on pages one twelve to one fourteen of your workbook what about your passionate career? Ideas makes you excited? And we'd section this a little bit in the last segment some of you guys answered everything everything about it makes me excited but we want to get a little bit more specific than everything is there a common our overarching theme number two why do you think you can succeed? Okay, there is no wishy washy talk aloud here and the answer to number two it's not I don't know if I can succeed or like oh, but I don't think I'm enough like was it? Why do you think you can succeed? Notice I didn't even say will right away I didn't even say well I said you can it's possible number three what do you want to be known for? What would you want others to say about you? So instead of introducing yourself by your career title that you don't particularly like when people to know about what you kind of wish someone would say about you to someone that you just met number four what do you care most about? I think this really ties into like your talking points and what you feel passionate about or what you find yourself. You keep bringing the conversations with your friends back to a certain thing on dh this doesn't you know have to be anything big b like I care most about making my family happy or I care most about making sure dogs that are in shelters aren't abuse or I care, you know, what is it that you care most about number five, what could you do that would make you feel that you've made a difference in the world or in someone is life. So again, this isn't a big thing. This isn't like I have to cure cancer. I have to find food and water for everyone in the world that doesn't have to be anything big, but it's about helping it's about making a difference, and I hear that over and over and over, especially from the creative women that I work with that it's about feeling helpful and it's about feeling that you've made a difference it's on and that looks different for everyone. So this isn't about anything really, really big. So as you're writing, I love that you guys are writing, I'm going, I'm going to show you what my answers are, right? So what excites me most about being there when I grow up coach is the possibility of helping creative women discover their passionate careers. Number two I think I could succeed at it because I'm a creative myself who's gone through this journey as well as a relationship builder with great communication skills, I'm also certify coach three I pride myself on being known for my optimism and ability to enthuse with possibilities and for my pink ukulele. Four ultimately I care most about women doing the work that feels like play five I feel that I've made a difference in my client's take action to leave their soul sucking energy draining jobs and do work they love full time s so that's all that's all me that's all why I do this work so ah here is the blank one here it is in the workbook right page one fifteen of the workbook um so we could take what we wrote and we're just we're summarising it right now right where where trying to be brief and sustained so what excites me about this potential career is blank I think I could succeed at it because blank I pride myself on being known for blank ultimately I care most about blank I feel that I've made a difference when blank so who wants to come right up here in the hot seat? Yes, jen one day a great going up can I bring my fit my little notebook? Yes, absolutely. You're going to do it cold like this? Okay, so when we talking about the photography marketing sort of stuff way don't have a name for doing so let's call it um uh creative services for people's blog's and websites create a vic it's a service helping my helper services yeah or blog's and websites yeah, yeah that's good I swear, my handwriting is so nice. I like don't know how to write on this thing. Okay, thank you. Okay, so what excites you about this potential career? So I like the the idea that I'm helping people, um, get excited and also empowering them to start their blogging website about their business, especially when they're feeling like we are right now in this room. Uh oh, which is which is how oh, a little overwhelmed a little bit like I can't do this little like like, where do I start? How do I do this? By myself on dh I'm collaborating and I'm using the things I love to do right now, which is writing photography, you know, collaborating, pulling things together and making it look polished in nice, okay? Oh, my god, that was such a great answer. Okay, wait. So this is what I got. What excites me about this potential career is helping people get excited and empowered to start their block in sight when they feel overwhelmed. Yes. Anything else to add to that? Was that a good summary? Looking? Okay, fantastic. So I think I could succeed at it because people are already asking me to do it, having gens. Heaven because I did mine and they like the way that I did mine and then they saw my photos in the way I write and they said would you help me do mine like would you do this for me so people are asking me for a little odds and ends will you take my photos for my blogged because I really need some good headshots the nuns like I've tried to do this newsletter for my blogged one hundred times I'm just not doing it how about if I just pay you to do it and then so now I'm realizing there's a whole package uh absolutely based on their needs and based on what you want to be working on what I want to be working on and what I'm already actually doing for myself right and the killing's what I do for myself and then they like it and it proves too that you don't have to be the expert of the world at this you just have to be a few steps ahead of the person who wants to hire you right that's true, huh? So big time I know because I get very far ahead of myself don't stop we all are they all get their right but we're putting away our crystal ball we're putting away all of those things we're just we're looking at the here and now I pride myself on being known for writing, huh? Writing working well with people listening and actually seeing who they are uh seeing who they are I think I feel like that is just who seeing who they are don't you think so it's more than just, you know, taking their their phone oh like figuring out their website or writing copy or anything yeah, like the tools I need to learn to be better at of the photography maybe the podcasts all these things I wanted you for myself like those air tools I can easily get my skills up, but actually what I'm good at is connecting with people listening to them empathizing and see who they are and then being able to actually express that all right about it take a picture like kind of get that moment where you capture somebody's essence and what I love is I really love getting someone's essence, you know, what makes them unique? What makes them different? What I see about them that maybe they discount I like letting that lands I like that moment quiet right there. Um four ultimately I care most about it could be related to this or not. What do you feel you care most about? Well, I care most about connecting with people and personal transformation and growth personal so interesting house like this is sexual reflection of your own personal transformation importance and all that we've been talking about like by working with them it's gonna allow you to have your growth transformation but you're also helping them tio right section mutually wonderful relationship and what helps me is that I need to value myself enough to be able to say ok compay me for the like I need to learn how to do that in a very, um mature and professional and proud way, huh? But we start small, right? So like let's remember what molly said and I totally forgot that I said this to her I did not have plenty of clients that have said like, I'm gonna have a guinea pig and I'm gonna do it for free right sometimes that's just what we're comfortable with that's what's gonna get our toe in the water like him that's great. When I first started coaching, I charged my very first client twenty five dollars a session because I was still in my coach training and I needed him too sign off and my coaching papers and write me a review so it counted towards my certification, but once I got certified I jumped up to seventy five dollars a session solely because this is how I came up with this number because when I was an actor I spent seventy five dollars per voice lesson and I always found the money and I never found an excuse not to go to my voice lessons so I said, ok, if I could find seventy five dollars to go to my voice lesson then a creative person who has no money could find seventy five dollars to invest with me and a session and then it grew and grew and grew and grew here but molly said right away that she heard me say, you know, people do people take things more serious flee when they're paying for them so you could start you could start at fifty dollars started one hundred dollars you could start at whatever it is you that makes you comfortable but probably also like a little bit scared, right? So I heard actually, um I wish I knew where this came from accredited teo that if you don't if if when you talk about how much you charge, you don't get nervous saying it, you're not charging enough, so I think when you're just starting even charging anything makes you nervous but it needs to be, you know, kind of thing. So I have the same moment last week when someone someone said, will you take my head shots for my really need? I really need that and I would love it if you do it and then I just because I was coming up with finances and I'm moving and as we get everything I'm like okay, I'll do it how about seventy five dollars because to me that was like a little more than I'm comfortable but at the same time totally doable and I took it back like I didn't hear back from her after twenty minutes and I wrote back and I'm like, well, I could go down to fifty on now and come back if she said no seventy five it's fine, I can she's like thanks for letting me now, but I'll face and I was and it's true I mean it's true it's really true because I have friends who are not yet professional, but I've hired them to do photo shoots for me when I've been in that place where I'm like I just want to boost my confidence and I know if I have some really nice pictures to put up a zay doo this site and I'm feeling good and I'm showing that off it'll be better and they've charged me like three hundred dollars and I've totally paid them because I feel like they need they need that too, like they're doing great work, they need to value that right? So isn't that nice to view money as that kind of reciprocal thank you write, and especially when you're hiring someone that you really blue leavin that you're able to support them by saying yes, I'm gonna be able teo give you what you need so you could continue doing this work you know it's hard especially when we're doing work that's like based around helping others you know a lot of time especially us women right now but I just want to help everyone well that's grayed but if I were to do this work for free I would not be here I'll be back in corporate america because that's what I would have to do full time in order make ends name is jennifer you're gonna jump out and see it yeah I just wanted to say also I can imagine too that it's hard to mention it to a friend that you want okay and I can also see too if you've had a precedent of having done it for free then you know it gets a little bit uncomfortable but I'm also wondering how about like a craigslist ad where it flat out says I do bios a cost one hundred dollars I will do you know this got in the other and it's just you know and there's no it doesn't cost anything to do it these people don't know you there's no reason they wouldn't pay it and you know great idea so it's about boundaries to write a boundary and you could say you could put up that craigslist ad and save seventy five dollars but if you my friends and family send any mail to your friends and family look I'm doing this I want to do a friends and family discount I don't think I want to be comfortable taking more than fifty so like you could you can work it that way to kind of work on it and then it's all up front when it's so clean and you know jenna jenna I also wouldn't feel that bad about it because I think a lot of businesses or people that work for a business would hire you and those air places where there used to spending this money and investing it in people and that such a reasonable amount but is also going to throw out the suggestion that you look for upcoming conference is in the area because those people a lot of times they're first time speakers especially if it's like a smaller event so if you help the coordinators who I don't have time or the resources to do it maybe you do a batch of like fifty for uh lower price um whatever you're comfortable with just because you're getting so many orders in that could help start you out that's a great idea cousin um one idea too is with the introduction of millennials into the work force you know the younger generation there's been some frustrations that is in the media it's funny but one thing that's super awesome about millennials is how flexible they are in one thing that's been becoming more and more popular is bartering so like kind of like we were talking about you know do you know, she was saying that she'd like some stylist things, and I was saying I'd like some photography things, and as both people turning, like, start something new, that concept of bartering is becoming a lot more progressive, a lot more accepted its businesses, supporting businesses and advertising is one of the biggest areas of profit for cos, you know, if you look at aps advertising's huge, so even doing that is worth financial value in itself. I love all these ideas, right? Let all these ideas reinforcement of your worth, and and what people are willing to do and how you could do this. I love this, so the last question we want to answer here is I feel that I've made a difference when when do you feel that you make a difference? I feel like I've made a difference when I've connected with someone, and they feel scene, and I'm also able to express myself, I'm able to be myself, I'm able to express myself openly, I I'm joyful and somebody feels like their their their scene, and we've connected. And so if it's a fair, I like, I make a difference when actually it's a feeling thing. Oh, interesting, what would you do have one word for that feeling who your connection connection hey I like this so let's go over what we have here what excites me about this potential career is helping people get excited and empowered to start a blogged or a website when they feel overwhelmed two I think I could succeed at it because people are already asking me to do it three I pride myself on being known for writing working well with people listening and seeing who they are we're able to express it and get their essence for ultimately I care most about connection personal transformation and growth and five I feel that I have made a difference when I've connected someone who feel scene and I'm able to authentically express myself keep your butt in that seat now what we're gonna do is we're going to make this into an answer to that dreaded question right so I'll use my own example first let's go back one more more slide so here I am right when I grow up coach is about the possibility of helping creative woman discovered their passionate careers I'm a creative myself I'm a relationship builder of great communication skills I'm I pride myself on being known for my optimism and choose others with possibilities my pink ukulele work that feels like play and you know my client's leaving their soul sucking energy draining job so so this is what I had and this is what I came come up with is the answer to the question I'm the one I grew up coach I helped create a woman get out of their soul sucking energy draining jobs and into work that feels like play while still being a grown up this is how I answer that question and I gotta tell you, I've been answering this question for the last six years doing this full time and doing this not full time and this is change this changes all the times of the thing you write down now is if you're doing things right, the thing right down now is not the thing that you're going toe I have six years later it's going to be evolving because you're also gonna pay attention so when people lean in and when they're interested, right? So I now always lead with I'm the when I grow up coach purely because I was at a like many sort of conference thing and the leader of the conference knew me by my online handle, so when it was time for us to introduce ourselves to the room, I said to her I'm the one I grew up coach because they knew she'd recognized me that way and I noticed the whole room went like, what what's that what's that and so I know that I peek someone's interests when I when I start off by saying I'm the one I grew up coach or I don't and they don't care and they're not people, and we don't have to really talk about it. Uh, so obviously, I'm not using every single thing that I wrote is the answer to a question. I'm not talking about my pink ukulele. I'm not talking about my enthusiasm in my optimism and blah, blah, blah. But internally, I could use all of that to guide my offerings and my branding and my marketing. I want to make sure that everything I do has that enthusiasm and has that fun and has a sense of play and has the pink ukulele, right?

This class was sooo incredibly fun and inspiring. It was wonderful to meet Michelle and interact with her in person. She is warm, kind, approachable and genuinely passionate about helping creatives find a career they can love. Having been raised to believe that the only route to a secure retirement was to find a job with a pension or, at least, a good 401k, this class gave me the courage to believe that I could do work I love and still finance a fabulous life in retirement. It also put things in perspective because it helped me to see that I deserve to be happy as much as anyone else who has carved a successful niche for themselves doing work they feel good about. And, it reminded me that if I try something and discover it isn't the right fit, the worse that can happen is that I go find that job with a pension at that point. So what? Why not me? Amen! xoxo, Jen

My dad used to tell me, "You don't get to do what you love. You just learn to love what you do." For years and years, I've been wandering from job to job wondering why I just wasn't feeling the love, no matter how much I learned to be good at what I do. Although, I tried to resign myself to the idea that work would always be something to dread day in and day out, I couldn't help but day dream about the elusive "perfect" job! I searched for years for tests or counselors who could help give me some direction as to what I would be good at and just before I lost hope, I found this class. I snuck it in during work on my cellphone (shh don't tell lol) and was running back to my desk when I had to be pulled away. It's nice to know someone understands what I've been going through and Michelle's energy is just so positive and motivating that I know that I can make things happen! I watched the free live broadcast but even before the end of day 1 I knew this class was a resource I'll gladly pay for! I would and have recommended this class to many people I know feel the same way I do! Changed my life! We're not made to fit into a mold so why not create your dream career! My review in one word? Amazeballs!

I purchased this course and made sure to finish it before 2015 started. It was so easy to go through the course and I made sure to be diligent in actually doing the activities and homework. I never knew there were other MULTI-PASSIONATE out there like me! I thought I was just a confused human being who needs to figure out her life! Haha! Michelle's energy and passion to help others are so eminent in the way she presents and guides us. I love the setting of Creative Live as well because I felt involved with the studio audience despite having to watch these sessions by myself. :) I learned so much about myself, about how I can incorporate my multiple interests into a unique ball of career perfectly molded for me, by me. All thanks to the help and wisdom of Michelle's experiences and talents. What a great end of 2014 and a great way to start 2015! THIS COURSE IS WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY. :)
