Real Life Grown-Up Amazing Careers

Yes have a question you must be jen jen um okay, so I I resonate with a lot of thank you for putting up your client's because that actually kind of got my brain and my hamish is going a little bit great. Um so I mean, I call myself a writer and photographer and I'm kind of stumbling through it and I actually just returned from living in bali and that was sort of where I fell into it chills yeah, I put my job I went there, I did travel around asia, I took time off and I kind of fell into this like I started doing tribal travel articles taking pictures started a block because I love to do it. Uh, and for years people have said to me, oh my god, you're a great writer why didn't you do that? And the reason I didn't do it because I want to buy a condo and get a four oh one k so and that's okay? And those air good goals, right? It's part of the reason I need myself when I grow up coach wasn't only because I wanted to help create of women grownups figure out their grown up career, but because...

I was all of a sudden a grown up and all of a sudden and I didn't want to live in queens with five roommates yes and I didn't want teo you know pack up my life in two days to go do peter pan and idaho for six weeks for two hundred dollars a week like I had new priorities so it's totally valid great recent well that's exactly where I'm finding myself back in san francisco is that now the deeper question is besides you know how my going to really earn money doing this the work is kind of coming I mean to be totally honest people are referring me friends are saying we write my newsletter will you take these pictures of me from my website would you do this? You know we're doing barters instead and so I'm realizing okay the deeper question is how do I want to live like truly like what do I want to spend my days doing now that I've hit this transition in life where I have actually had the day job made the money have the four oh one k and now it's a little bit more of quality of life in san francisco and it's expensive here right? So I'm not getting myself so that I think will okay do I need a part time job to actually be able to feel relaxed enough that I could be creative because I did learn that you do have to feel secure in yourself and have a little bit of a routine and enough money coming in you could be like okay, I can set the timer for forty five minute has actually play. Yes. Oh, my god! I feel like we had a whole big conversation before, and I set you up to ask all of that, but that did not happen, but I will pay twenty dollars later. This is the whole thing, right? I'm going to say this over and over again, but I'm gonna say it first right now, our goal simplified and creating your dream career is really what I want to wake up in the morning and be happy that I get to do it. Not that I have to do it, do it if you find that you're waking up in the morning and you are excited to get to dio seventy five percent of the things that you have to dio that day and there are things that we're not going to like within our dream career that we're gonna have a little have to do the books today, I have to go food shopping longues where you got to clean my bathroom, but it's about how you want to live, and that is why today's theme is dreaming, so that is, we're starting things off in the next segment with really a hippy dippy, because this is who I am now visualisation exercise of like your dream life, because we need to know what it consists of and for some people it's not even about what they're doing is their career, they just want to know that they could they could be there for their kids when they got off the bus or that they could train for that marathon without having to do it at three o'clock in the morning. So it's about honing in on your personal goals, what you want for yourself as well as a professional stuff and that's where the magic is and I also have to say and point my finger at you, but in excitement, um, hearing you say like, oh, how am I gonna make money as a writer? But yet it seems like you have the sense of ease with it right now that people are coming to you now that I'm a hippy dippy like, full fledged hippy dippy and I'm on ly a hippy dippy because I've been doing this work for six years, and I see this happen over and over with my clients and in my own career is that, uh when you get clear on what you want and you start telling people about it, right? It's that's a scary part, but you start even softly saying, like, hey, I'm looking to do some writing work or whatever like, hey, let me know what you need if you are clear and committed to that work that's where doors open for you and that's when I hear like oh my god I was offered to teach this class oh my gosh this client just found me I don't even have my website set up yet this person referred me and so you know it's you have to be like mind body and soul committed to that goal answered and talk about it but you'll find that that's when things start working and that's when you know that's the work that you're supposed to be doing now we've got alexandra wth the connection's not like great so we're going to see her photo but hopefully we'll be outta here so pretty she is oh hi doll huh thank you so much for being here it's my pleasure and so honored I love you I love her you guys go to alexandra friends and dot com right now you'll see why but I gave the whole spiel alexandra of like you coming to me in january twenty ten and putting the pressure on by saying like I thought I was in my dream career public radio but it turns out that any career that's not entrepreneurial is not my dream career and so I've given four months notice to be an entrepreneur but I don't know what that would look like and what I could offer so you could you talk a little bit about what it was like to realize that what you thought was your dream job just wasn't your dream as a grown up. Yeah, it will. It was really, really I felt a lot of fun as well, because at that time, if you remember, historically, we were of interest, and I had worked so hard to get this job that I thought was my dream on. Then I realized I didn't want it, but I saw credit call thanksgiving day off, left and right, people who really want a job, I have this sense, I don't want to be here and yet what? Right? I have to complain, I'm lucky, so that kind of trouble that comes looking at the office for me, but I just wanted to, you know, well, alexandra, we need to cut you off. I think the audio is just cutting in and out so much that we're not getting a we're not getting the your answer's way. We'll try and get you back, perhaps in the light to segment. Really politics, great to have you with us, we have every other word sounds great thing, you know, that feeling of like I am, I'm lucky to have this job, who am I to complain, and I hear that for my clients a lot to write like we're in a recession who am I to complain I have this stable job I thought it was my dream this is what I worked towards on do you know it's just not the truth so alexandra just has so much to offer if you right this is a great time to tell you that in the workbook um there is more about alexandra and there's a link to an interview that I did with her back and I think two thousand eleven and you could see me with like pigtails and her in a red blazer and we're talking like she's pretty new into this transition and so if you want teo get that link for that interview it's here for you in the workbook and just just go sign up for everything she has to say because she's a genius woman and I love her thank you alexandra I'm so sorry so let's move on uh tio not true stories of real career changes but to really life grownup careers that are so freaking crazy amaze balls that your mind is going to be blown with their awesome knows on we're going to start with for me the business that kind of started my obsession with like let's find businesses that are weird and amazing uh and it was when I went to a wedding that was catered by a pizza fire truck you guys this is me and my husband the pizza fire truck photo booth and I was so obsessed like I looked, I looked at that pizza fire truck, I think it was like twenty eleven, twenty, twelve, and I said, wow, I'm so glad I don't tell people what they could do when they grow up, because there's there's no career dictionary, these tests that they're giving our children, they need to stop it because there's a pizza fire truck serving me at a wedding. So, of course I go online, I find them at mobile pizza unit dot com I listened to the owner story, there was video up there, and it turned out that he was the owner of a brick and mortar pizza shop, and he went to an auction given by the city. This wasn't mr connecticut, and he saw a fire truck, and he went, I really want to try that fire truck. I think I could drive that fire truck if I put a pizza oven on it, and so he did that, and he installed beer taps in the fire truck and a photo booth and it's, like turned into a thing, and I think now it's in california, I don't know where, but I think like they're at a pizza fire truck, all right, so here is some other crazy careers were going to kind of go through him zack hample, dot com he's, a baseball sin agger and a consultant keys snagged his term more than seventy, six hundred baseball's, a fifty one different major league studio stadium since nineteen ninety he's partly that into three different books. He's been on the tonight show along with other media outlets. Totally. Jay leno has interviewed him, and you could hire him to go to the baseball stadium with you and your family. And he guarantees you that when you do, you will get a baseball from the stadium. This is a freaking job. And he's been doing this for years, okay? Music. Santis ologists who I've been practicing that word. Peter roberts is just one of many music sound ecologist at robert's music dot net. And this is someone who plays music to someone who's dying to help ease them into death. So if you're a musician and you think the on ly options for you are to, like, teach and do some live gigs, maybe do some recording sessions there's not if this is something this to me would be like the hardest thing to dio. Uh, but this is what makes the world go around and why I love my job because you could be a music sound pathologist s and give people a really beautiful transition into death. Laughter therapy it's okay, I love the owner of this business her name is sue and we had a great email exchange recently and I need to read to you verbatim what she wanted you guys to know, she said, I truly love my work I help people toe laugh what could be better than that? I work with people who have lost their laughter and help people to rediscover their lighter side on the first to admit that making a business from laughter sounded really kooky when I first looked into this bearing in mind that I also run a c serious pr company multi passionate person and have done so for seventeen years, but I'm so glad I did it I heard everyone to follow their dream and put mirth before money and yes, I do get that we all need some money to live off of butt once you've actually found the thing that it nights your passion be brave and the money will follow. Um so obviously I'm in love with her and you know we'd run off and get married if I wasn't married already she's at laughter yoga dot biz um branded a shirt where this is the most interesting frickin businesses that I wear your shirt dot com right and this is another company I've been following for years where the owner has like a really big social media following and so he decided to rent out his torso. I'm like you're a torso renter runs out his torso and he had companies pay him teo give him their branded shirts and do things in the brandon shirts and put it on a social media platform, and he had this crazy, amazing idea for for pricing at by which day of the year you reserve him for is how much you're paying. So in january first you give him a dollar to be featured that day on all the social media platforms, and on december thirty first, you give him three hundred sixty five dollars, and this blew up so much that he hired other torso renters, and now it looks like it's morphing into selling books, sponsorships still interesting and, again, all of these links of everything that I mentioned, and then I think more are in the workbook, a masters of the hunt dot com people that make and run scavenger hunts like how freakin fun is that? So if you like puzzles and you like event planning and whatever this could be you freaking lovett corporate team building promotional hunts, do it yourself scavenger hunts a lot of different ways to make money with this professional contest winner, so not on ly. Is she the professional contest winner? She makes money by winning contests, but that's what she's teaching a contest queen dot com and I think you're going to see that a lot that if you're doing something well, it's a natural transition into teaching so that could be another just stream of income, a way for you to vary your career and what you're doing as a most passionate person that ends up being really important to us wedding dance choreographers and teachers at my dance to go dot com there tied for the best pun punny name the name of their wedding choreography uh company is pop and wedlock, which is like my favorite thing ever on I just loved how they are, so uh, you know, they're they're regular regular dance teachers, but if you want a great first dance for your wedding, this is where you go to and they call it out it's just not mixed in with their other offerings there saying I'm we're the wedding dance choreographers and teachers graphic facilitator this is julie stewart of making ideas visible dot com she is one of thousands of graphic facilitators and this is a career that so, like when I heard about it, I went, oh my gosh, I can't believe that people could do this eso what she's been trained to dio is to go into events and conferences and meetings, and she has a big sheet of paper, and she makes essentially a mind map visual map of everything that's been talked about that conference. So instead of leaving the conference for the meeting with pages and pages and pages of notes, you're seeing it visually coolest job ever. And you could see an interview that I did with julie if this type of career is interesting to you at when I grow up. Coach dot com slash q g that's a website for my interview, serious call grown up gigs where we taken inside look at dream jobs held by real people. And now julie just told me that she's now moving into her, changing her title to be strategist, facilitator and visual thinker. So her business is becoming much more, I think, robust and well rounded. Uh, next fake wedding cake. Renter. Okay, so if you want the look of an expensive big cake at your wedding, but you don't pay for it, you could get a fake wedding cake, cake rental, dot com and the owner, kimberly wanted to make sure you guys knew that she started this business. Whoever it was that ask this question just now and needs to listen up, she started this business at the age of fifty she was not too old to start this business, and she says the secret to a successful dream career is to listen to the customers and give them what they want. She never thought of renting her faith display cave cakes, but the brides were asking for it and she thought, let's, give them what they want, right? External clues to our dream career, which we're going to talk about today. So six weeks later, fun cakes was born, she was on the today show, and it hasn't slowed down in seven years that's just fascinating cause I can understand that being used for like props for film or tv, but why would a bride? Because they don't pay for the real big cake, and so when the cake comes out and then the cake comes sliced, it's probably a little little are less expensive cake because it's just coming out, slice its genius. I'm like love it. I'm obviously so excited about this's like, yeah, yeah, it's about the show is totally and nobody knows that the cake that they saw isn't the kick that's on their plate. It's magic, personal historian life stories today dot com rachel is one of many personal historians I don't know how many they are, but this is great for writers, right? So if you want to be a writer and you want to write other people's stories and you think I have to be hooked up with a celebrity or a publishing house in order to be like someone's, ghost writer or whatever, you know you could become a personal historian and anyone could hire you to write their life story or the story of how they met their spouse or anything else they want to be written about. Her sight is amazing. Rachel rifkin of life stories today. Dot com cookie deliverers by bike if you live in halifax, halifax cookie cravings dot com talk about just bringing all of your interests somewhere like cookies and delivery usually don't happen and cookie deliveries by bike it's just even more so. I guess I love how in tune in ish that isthe tree house, bed and breakfast, tree house bed and breakfast tree house point dot com. So we're gonna do an exercise later on called peanut butter jelly time. Where were you? Mushing together you were your skills to pay the bills as I like to call it and you are intriguing interests and we're seeing what kind of like crazy out of the box and realistic ideas we could come up with and this to me I saw this and like this is something out of peanut butter jelly time that's supposed to be ridiculous but ends up being a real career. So if you probably smashed together tree house it loving tree houses or loving architecture er and liking hosting people, you don't have to have a regular begin be you could have a treehouse b and b run p is, um a great app I think is probably the best staff ever. Uh, you go to the movies, download grumpy, you go to the movies, you tell the ap what movie you're seeing you put in your pocket and when it's ok to go to the bathroom and a place in the movie that you won't miss anything, it vibrates this is a company this is a company, this is a company okay, so excited uh, now these they're just some other companies that I couldn't get the rights to show you their home screens, but all the lengths they're here all the links aaron the workbook look this professional cuddler professional bridesmaid, a professional whistler professional mermaid these are all real things people are doing for riel money professional bridesmaid I just saw on the today show this weekend, and I went to go look at her sight and it crashed and like, she basically created it from a craigslist post that said, hire me to breathe your bridesmaid, and she had such an outpouring of interest that it led her to build this company, and as far as I know she see orin, I think she said, she's the only professional bridesmaid so like that could be a really easy way to put out a craigslist ad. You see what hits and if there is interest and then parlay that into something, you don't have to start big and crazy and professional and websites and thousands of dollars right away. Personalized wrapper for hire gift wrapped dot com. So, uh, say your husband's birthday is a week from saturday and, uh, mine my husband's birthdays a week from saturday, and you want to given the coolest gift ever. You go to gift wrap, dot com, you tell j all about your husband, and he writes a custom rap for a certain amount of minutes, depending on what you pay for for you to give the person the rap and he's been on the today show and amazing live wake up collars daily wake up call that we believe dot com uh they stay on their site they employ stay at home moms and if you want to feel like you're in a hotel all the time are like old school or whatever live wake up collars alibi provider alibi provider if you need an al alibi there's a company that you could go teo to get one pet detective is self explanatory it's not ventura pet slash the tax of dot com gossip cake bake baker she on ly biggs gothic kings that's it gothic kings and in that realm evil birthday clown I read an article where you could hire the evil birthday clown to stock your children because I guess that's something that children want I don't know but he's been doing it for years his site is weird and scary and only has like a home pigs with like weird laughing and a contact for him so he's also a great example of like obviously building a reputation, getting some press and he doesn't need really anything else to talk about because it's all right there post party cleaners okay, talk about specifics right? They're not housecleaner they're not coming to clean your house at annual time they're coming after you give a party and not only are they coming to clean your house after a party if they're coming with breakfast burritos to help your hangover which is why they're out helping hangovers dot com and their pricing structure is per roommates, so they like to know their needs I think they're in a college town and they're just like bring it home, santa letter writer you could have your kid write a letter to the santa claus house, which is like north pole, alaska or something and they have someone that's writing it on like really letterhead and blah, blah, blah a letter back to your child from santa stansel letter writer and a manservant this I think is launching in san francisco. The website is still bear, but coming up with the idea of a man servant and they have been looking at coming up with the idea of having a man service servant business or becoming a man servant like that was just another kind of genius thing a few more I can't help myself, right sound effects maker all sound effects you hear in commercials in movies and all that stuff someone has to artificially make that we don't think about these things so you could learn more about that films films down dot, org's slash fully rent a go this is I guess, the thing in the northwest it is not a thing in brooklyn where I live, so when I saw this on shark tank, which is like such a great place to find, these crazy ideas are amazing you could rent a goat to naturally landscape your property, so I guess a lot of people in portland, like you drive down the street, you see ghosts wandering around someone's house, not in like a farm environment and their landscaping rent the chicken dot com. So I think buying chickens is like a trendy thing now, so you could either try before you buy or you could just say, like, I want really fresh seasonal eggs this season, I'm going to rent a chicken lego artists and teacher brick artist dot com you guys might have seen this guy. He has a national exhibit. His name is nathan soya it's called the art of the brick, and he partnered up with the discovery channel to have this national moving exhibit of his lego sculpture's he also get's, commissioned by companies and corporations to do events he also teaches I think it like the on ly ly lego school ever. So if anyone is kind of laughing at you, playing with legos and you're this great lego builder and you're over the age of ten, you could point them to brick artist dot com and in home head lice remover, this ties for best name laos calls dot com and what I love about this, I put this list up on my block a few months ago and the owner left a comment and she gave me some insight as to why she started this business and and why she loves what she does she says I get to meet new people all the time and I get to help kids get back to school and so I thought that was such great insight into a job that I look at that I go that sounds terrible but to hershey she sees it as something different and she sees it as really being valuable and helping so we are going to turn to page twelve of your workbook if you have one and we're going right down the three or the five or the ten crazy careers that you have now that you've ever had but you don't think would be successful or grown up a realistic for you um and I want to hear it in the chat and I want to hear from you guys and I want you to tweet it our facebook it with the dream career live hashtag I'm gonna keep my eyes on that tonight um and uh and we love tio here what you guys are talking about is there anyone in the audience that have had like, a crazy correct besides life coach crazy but I've had a crazy career idea that they kind of discounted or they thought that's dumb or no one would pay for that or I've never seen that before you giving me a look I can't actually tell you what they are because I think I brain storing them falling asleep but I literally bother my boyfriend and keep him up all my trying to tell him new ideas I have and then in the morning they're gone but they're gone we'll keep track of them write keep track of them when we talk about dreaming in the next segment we'll talk all about that but keep track of those things and you might start seeing threads and one idea might start not sound so crazy is there anything in the chat that's coming through I've really got to know more about this for necessary she wanted to be a professional jell o wrestling oh okay you know adults think maybe vanessa explain please sounds great white winterbourne says a duct tape artist antonio says a professional gum chewer oh uh that listen I read an article about a professional paint dreyer he watches paint dry literally there's a link to it in the workbook and so if there's someone that could watch paint dry or be like a professional ice cream taste or something like that there could be an ice cream store when I was sixteen that wasn't my job but that's what I did to meghan cases I want to be a tor mum for bands on tour it's my crazy dream career that amazing especially for like the one direction maybe you know kids sort of fans that need that's, chopper, own or grown ups that get themselves in trouble. That's, really that mom so believe, please, please keep this. These ideas in mind, keep these careers in mind. Keep these people in mind as we go on this journey together over the next three sessions and beyond, and know that, like my friend jennifer lin says nothing seems impossible. Nothing is impossible.

This class was sooo incredibly fun and inspiring. It was wonderful to meet Michelle and interact with her in person. She is warm, kind, approachable and genuinely passionate about helping creatives find a career they can love. Having been raised to believe that the only route to a secure retirement was to find a job with a pension or, at least, a good 401k, this class gave me the courage to believe that I could do work I love and still finance a fabulous life in retirement. It also put things in perspective because it helped me to see that I deserve to be happy as much as anyone else who has carved a successful niche for themselves doing work they feel good about. And, it reminded me that if I try something and discover it isn't the right fit, the worse that can happen is that I go find that job with a pension at that point. So what? Why not me? Amen! xoxo, Jen

My dad used to tell me, "You don't get to do what you love. You just learn to love what you do." For years and years, I've been wandering from job to job wondering why I just wasn't feeling the love, no matter how much I learned to be good at what I do. Although, I tried to resign myself to the idea that work would always be something to dread day in and day out, I couldn't help but day dream about the elusive "perfect" job! I searched for years for tests or counselors who could help give me some direction as to what I would be good at and just before I lost hope, I found this class. I snuck it in during work on my cellphone (shh don't tell lol) and was running back to my desk when I had to be pulled away. It's nice to know someone understands what I've been going through and Michelle's energy is just so positive and motivating that I know that I can make things happen! I watched the free live broadcast but even before the end of day 1 I knew this class was a resource I'll gladly pay for! I would and have recommended this class to many people I know feel the same way I do! Changed my life! We're not made to fit into a mold so why not create your dream career! My review in one word? Amazeballs!

I purchased this course and made sure to finish it before 2015 started. It was so easy to go through the course and I made sure to be diligent in actually doing the activities and homework. I never knew there were other MULTI-PASSIONATE out there like me! I thought I was just a confused human being who needs to figure out her life! Haha! Michelle's energy and passion to help others are so eminent in the way she presents and guides us. I love the setting of Creative Live as well because I felt involved with the studio audience despite having to watch these sessions by myself. :) I learned so much about myself, about how I can incorporate my multiple interests into a unique ball of career perfectly molded for me, by me. All thanks to the help and wisdom of Michelle's experiences and talents. What a great end of 2014 and a great way to start 2015! THIS COURSE IS WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY. :)
