Formal Pictures After the Ceremony

Okay, this is the fun part for me this is when Yervant Photography comes. Up til now, it's the bride's house, okay, beautiful moments, the church, I shoot what I see, I don't do anything. Now, it's my part. This is where I get the most excited because they have given me the key and, "Yervant, here you are, do whatever you want." So, her favorite place was Melbourne University. It's a beautiful old university. 904 images there. You see they took one hour to arrive here because traffic and everything. So, 3:30 to 4:40. This is one hour shoot. So, it's getting dark, also, because 5 o'clock, winter, it's gonna be dark. So this, in the car park. Okay, turn your back towards me, and look back. You stay there, sweetheart, okay. Can you tilt slightly towards me? And, that's it. Yeah, that's it. Turn your back towards Chris. That's it, Chris, okay, that's perfect, stay there. Beautiful, yeah. Dani, turn towards him more. That's it, beautiful, and it's enough. So, when they meant the English lan...

guage, they gave me "That's it." (laughter) It was for me only. Okay, so, this was when we were coming out of the car park. I thought those leaves and everything would be quite nice. And bring the groom into it. And just take advantage of any, anything around me, you know? It looks amazing when you see the actual picture. Digitally, you're not going to see it as good. When you see the picture, it's so beautiful. You don't want to be in the sun? No, no shots under the sun. There's beautiful reflection there, look. If we look at there, in the green and the building, full light there. Okay, I'll move the bride there in a moment. Dani, go there please, just there. On the grass? Yeah. Oh, wow, that's what I follow. Now turn towards me. And heads closer, beautiful. Dani, come forward just a bit. Not for you, Chris, just Dani. Now, Chris, can you give her a nice hug, a nice cuddle. That's it, perfect. That's it, that's it, and beautiful. Okay, guys, can you come towards me? Okay, girls, can you stretch her dress, please, over here? Look at that light, amazing. Chris, slightly behind her. Can you push that behind you, Chris? That's it! That's it! Dani, nice, that's what I want, perfect, that's gorgeous. Chris, hold her hand. Yeah, that's it, more away, more cool. Yeah, that's it. Okay, Dani, look here, sweetheart. And take couple of steps. Give a kick, give a kick and stop. That's it, perfect. Then, Dani, another kick this way. Perfect, that's beautiful, and look at Chris. Chris, grab her and give her a hug. Grab her and give her a hug, that's it, that's gorgeous, guys. Perfect, that's beautiful, stay there, nice. And Dani, turn your back towards Chris, lean on him. Drop a little bit lower so Chris is taller than you. Yeah, go around here. Chris, no, no, just stand cool. Dani, where are you going? I'm going around. Okay, stop, stop, that's it. Chris, turn around towards me. Don't look at her. You're not gonna look at her, turn towards me, that's it. Okay, go ahead, Dani. Oh, hold on, we lost the light. Oh, no, we lost the light. Let her do the job. Let her do it all. That's gorgeous. Chris, that's not romantic. Yeah, I love you baby, hug him, hug him, hug him. Hug me, love me! Beautiful, that's great, guys. Do whatever you want, Kels. Yeah, that's it. Come on, Dani, come forward. Can I get you guys to turn more toward there? I need light in your face, that's it, Dani. Okay, Chris. Yeah, your back is perfect. Okay, go for it, guys. Dani, close your eyes, sweetheart, that's romance, guys. Yeah, on the leg. That's it, beautiful, that's great. Now look here, nice. Slightly turn your face their ways, that's it. That's it, then stop there, nice, that's gorgeous, Dani. Perfect. I'm gonna copyright "That's it." That's my word now. You see, the videographers took the couple to get a backlight picture. So, that was nice, but I'm not a big fan of backlight flash. I want always the light coming, hitting the couple. So, the sun was coming through the building, through the trees and hitting the building on the side. So there was beautiful, warm winter light. And that light was reflecting back into the trees. Such a great light, you know, that's why I was so excited. Okay, let's do that quickly so, before that 'cause it's a matter of a second, that light is gonna disappear. And I get excited, and you see that's when it happened. You see sun coming there, reflecting into the bride, and beautiful. I've shot a low angle with a wider lens. And did you realize, every now and then I said, "Kick, "kick the dress."? Because, okay, the girls fixed the dress but I don't want the girls every minute to fix the dress, I'm gonna miss pictures. So when I say kick the dress, takes good angles. That was with the backlight. It's okay, but I'm not a fan. But once I used that beautiful light coming from the wall, it's a big reflector. People say, "Why don't you carry reflector?" I will find a reflector. I will find a natural reflector. Look, it's a bit of warm light. It's a cold, the actual light is very cold, it's winter. It's a blue light. So when you get that warm light hitting the couple. You can see a bit of warmth there. Actually, when you see the original online, it's much nicer, if you see on that screen it's much warmer. So it's quite a warm picture. The sun is there, the building is hitting toward the couple, and great shot. And then, I started moving them. You see, when you move them, I didn't pose that, he did it. I said, "Come on, Chris, give her a hug!" And this is what happens, she was a bit concerned he's gonna put the makeup on or whatever. But, he got the shot. And look at the expressions. Again, Dani walking around her. The beautiful building in the background, capture it. Now, it was all movement. It was not posed, they were not standing, they were moving. When they were moving, I'm getting the shot. There would be a bad shot there, also, because they're moving. Maybe the expression is done. But I'm looking for that perfect shot. And look at that, he did that, I didn't ask him to give her a kiss on the neck. Not at all, do you know how many people there are? My shoes are the least of my problems right now. Dani, how you going, Dani? You're good. What possessed me to get a big dress? Shoulda got a light little slinky one. The same thing that possessed you to get married. Okay, go on the step there. Dani, can you, just a bit less, and drop on him! Chris, support her. Chris, get rid of that flower, it's right into the camera. Thanks, sweetheart. Okay, guys, we need to work very fast 'cause we're running out of time. Okay, give her a kiss. No, Dani, Dani don't lean back. Towards me, sweetheart, that's it, Chris, sweetheart. Yeah, that's perfect. Beautiful, stay there. Okay, so I'm panicking a little bit because I need to take a lot of pictures. So I need to start moving them. Okay, those are the pictures there.

I am SO grateful to CreativeLive as well as Yervant for taking the time to put on this class. So many times while sitting in this class I thought to myself "what have I been thinking?!" I have so much to learn! I loved hearing about Yervant's process for creating images, but what inspired me even more was his advice on how to view, and treat yourself as a professional. I completely agree when he said photographers are creative but we are "terrible business people." But I aim to change this in my business from this point forward, thanks to this class! Yervant's advice on how to value, protect, and sell your art is priceless. I have always valued printing and creating products clients can hold, but I don't think I understood the real emotional value in it until this class. When he pulls those images we just watched him create for the last two days, off of that printer, and they are there before our eyes, I had an emotional reaction to it. I want my clients to experience the same, so I must value it and create opportunities to educate my clients. Thanks for the kick in the pants that we all needed Yervant! And I hope this will not be the last time I get to experience your education in my life. I said this many times to other students during the class, but I will say it again here, I want to carry a mini Yervant with me every where I go! Thank you Creative Live and thank you Yervant!

Yervant’s ardent love for wedding photography and capturing his brides in their best light is unquestionable. His love for this photography community and his regard for our respect in the world hierarchy is without reservation. Yervant’s willingness to share his knowledge and skill for all these things to come together is beyond generous. These are some of the things that help Yervant to effortlessly stand out as a photography master and this is exactly what this class is about… plain and simple.
