Adding Schema Using a Plugin
in this lesson, we're going to look at how to add schema to your website using plug ins. This is a more user friendly option and for the less technical people taking the course, this will seem a lot easier than the manual version. Okay, so now we want to add schema to our Wordpress website using a plug in. So how we do that. We're over here, we're back in our same website, we're back in the Wordpress dashboard and we're going to add a plug in. Now the plug in we're going to add is a schemer plug in. So I'm going to go over here. I'm going to search for a schemer and I'm going to choose a plug in that will give us the features that we're looking for. So let's look at the options that pop up this first one here. It gives us if we look at the features on offer, It gives us Schema for 33 different schema types, including news, articles, local business, which is most important for us, articles, recipes, products, all sorts of things, which is great scrolling down. We can see that the premiu...
m features that the product um these are premium plug in features so you would need to buy it, which we're not interested in doing right now and therefore priority support and reviews. So nothing major that we can't live without. So in this case let's just click install now and then we want to click activate. Once it's finished installing, it will appear over here on the left hand menu. Sometimes plug ins will appear here in the settings. In this case it's placed itself down here. We can go ahead and start to add some schema types that we can begin to use across our site. So since we're working with a dental clinic here we're going to add some relevant schemer up here. There's the button add schema type. So we'll go ahead and click that. Now what we want to do here is select the schema that we're interested in adding. You can see that there's many different types all the way from all the different types of creatives, from articles, news, articles, reviews and recipes. And let's do a service since this is a service business being a dentist. Now what we wanna do here is tell the plug in which pages on our site, our service pages. So it has it already uploaded the list of posts or pages on our site. And so for this particular example we would choose dental implants and the page again equals two, All on four. And for this particular example for services that we have just told this plug in that these pages are services pages which is great. Now that's done and we can return to the dashboard and add other types of schema. So now we have our service schema we can add a second type let's add since we're doing a lot of blog posts on our site. Let's add article schemer. Now I want to add this article schemer so that it's so that it appears on all of the blog posts that I write across this site or that the client right. So every time they publish a post it will be marked up with the relevant article schemer. So we could do at post type equals to post. And that is going to apply the article schemer to any post that we publish really, is that simple? So we're just setting some rules here and defining what type of a scheme, what type of schema we're going to apply to a particular pages or posts or sections of our website. Now you can see that we've got service and article schema added within our plug in. So let's also test how that has been applied to see if um has been applied correctly using the plug in. So let's go and grab one of the posts from this site. I'm going to copy the U R. L. And I'm going to head over to the structured data testing tool. Again, I'm going to place that you are l in there. I'm going to run test and we're interested to see whether the article schema that we applied has been applied correctly and it has. Great. So we can see that the article schemer has been applied to this specific blog post. And and when we open that up its article, it's grabbed the U. R. L. The headline, the meta description, the article body, the data was published, who published it. If you have your actual name in here, this will show your name in this case, this is the administrator and you can see all of the other relevant information that tells google that this is an article that was published on this date by this person on this site and that is how you can add Schemer, two different different pages and posts across your site using a plug in Now. This is just one plug in but I like for the example that we're doing here today because there are many different options available to you within the free plug in itself. Um so you can keep going through and adding different types of schema, adding them to your pages, your posts or your home page. You contact us your about us page and you can see that there really are, I was going to say hundreds but really dozens of options for you to go ahead and mark up your business using the most relevant schemer that will help google identify you in the search results and to mark up your business appropriately. So you can see that by adding schema markup to the important parts of our website that we're able to make our pages stand out. We're able to let google know that this is a product or service page that this is an event page, this is a blog post and in a broader sense, we're able to tell google what type of business we are. We can tell them that we're a dentist, a hardware store or a training center and this really is the essence of what we're trying to achieve through our local SEO efforts. We're trying to signal to google that we're a local business in our city or neighborhood. We're sending signals from our website from our google my business listing from citations, through back links from local websites and through correct schema markup. It all ties together to provide one cohesive local business signal and when we get it right, that's what will elevate us above the competition. Local S. C. O. Workers a process. It involves work across different areas, but in this course I've highlighted how you can achieve this in a step by step approach so that you can make real progress with your business.
