Match the Right Object with the Right Digitizing Process
So now let's talk about the process of transforming real tactile objects into pixel based using our camera and our scanner, okay. Now this process is what we call digitizing. We're taking real objects and somehow making them digital in our digital world. The process is important because if you don't get the process right or it doesn't look good it's just never gonna look good on your page. So it is some place where you have to pause and stop and take some time to make sure you're doing it right. Now if you don't have a scanner, if you don't have a scanner it becomes a little harder and you have to rely on your photography. I kinda think now days we all have cameras so if you don't have a camera then you have to rely on your scanner. But use what you have available to you is the most important key. Just use it. Now the general rule of thumb is that if something is flat then you're gonna want to scan it okay. If something is dimensional then you're gonna want to photograph it. If you don...
't, then the highlights and the shadows are not gonna look realistic. So then when you add it to your page you're gonna go that just doesn't look right. Now if you photograph a painting that should be scanned then it's gonna look weird, you know. It's not gonna have the texture and the dimension that you need it to have. And that's one of the most important things. When I do something like this for example and you take a photograph of it, there's kind of flecks and there's weaving going along in the texture of the paper when you look at it, a scanner's gonna pick that up. A photograph is not gonna pick that up. So that's why it's key to figure out the right kind of process. It's good for dimensional stuff. Dimensional stuff is easy. But a lot of times I see people taking pictures of something that really needs to be scanned and it's like it doesn't have that texture so when you add it to the digital page it's missing that texture. Then you gotta find texture to add in. I don't wanna do that. Just start with the brushes like that.

This class is FABULOUS! Tiffany is very knowledgeable and was extremely well prepared. (I watched the entire class from 9 to 4 today, August 18, 2016.) She speaks clearly and is easy to understand. She does move quickly through the material, so I would recommend buying the class so you have unlimited access to the videos. The bonus materials are great! This class is well worth the money. However, the class is probably for those with at least intermediate skill in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Beginners would probably find it overwhelming. I will add that the class is well suited to anyone interested in digital art as well as those who do digital scrapbooking.

love love love this class...Tiffany is an awesome teacher. She has really organized this class to provide maximum value to the audience. Being a paper crafter and digital scrapbooker, the instructions/ideas Tiffany has shared will definitely help me to take my work to the next level.

What a fun class! I've been doing digital design for over four years but learned so much today! Tiffany Tillman-Emanuel is a very competent instructor, was very encouraging, and stressed that there is more than one way to do something in Photoshop and the importance of discovering our own style...highly recommend purchasing this course along with her class on compositing for digital scrapbookers...I got a great deal on both. BTW, I am not a scrapbooker but create and sell digitally painted background and art journal papers, so there's something for everyone in this class!
