Money
Hi. In this video, we're gonna talk about money. So if you ask a lot of different people about music in the music industry, they'll probably tell you that there's no money in music anymore and that's just not true. Ok, the, the pie is really, really large and it's actually growing every single year. Ok. So when people tell you this, you know, don't let it deflate you challenge them on why they believe that to be the case cos more often they're not actually saying it from any, a place of truth or a place of fact. Ok, another point I really wanna make is like when you think about making it as a music artist or making money, um making music, you can't just limit your thoughts on that to selling music or getting streams. Ok? What you need to think about is actually building a brand, building a music brand for yourself. And then thinking about all of the different income opportunities that you have once you've built that fan base. So if you have a really, really loyal fan base and what I me...
an by loyal fan base is not tens of thousands of followers I mean, some fans that just love what you do because you could have 10,000 followers on Instagram, but you, you could have zero fans and a fan is someone who actually knows who you are, who loves what you do and is always interested in hearing or seeing more. Once you have that, once you have like maybe 1000 Super fans um as they call it, those people are gonna be very receptive to supporting you. They're gonna be receptive to buying vinyl or buying t-shirts or buying any other merchandise. There's no scarcity of the different things that you could sell to them as branded merchandise that they will buy because they love you and love what you do and want to support you. It's good to get out of the mindset of just making money directly from music. But also think about your music as a sort of marketing platform for your brand, which you can monetize in many, many different ways. There are plenty of artists out there, artists, some artists that I've worked with, who are selling t-shirts and selling hoodies and they're putting out their music, their music is getting exposure. They're also making money from streaming and licensing and stuff like that. But they're selling stuff on their websites and like t-shirts and hoodies. And I mean, there's no, uh, scarcity, like I said to the different things that you can sell to, uh, your audience, you just have to know what your audience look like and what things they are interested in to give you an example. Actually, there's a really, really cool artist called Leah. Um Leah. And she, um, because she makes like heavy metal music that's kind of themed very heavily around like fantasy, like stuff like dragons and uh elves and all of those things that you might find in the hobbit or Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones. She's done so well at identifying what her fans like that, she makes like music videos that are themed around that stuff. But she also sells merchandise that are themed on that sort of thing as well, like trainers and a leather bound amulets all on her website. Ok. So the point of this is that don't just think of it as making money directly through sales of music or through streams of music, think about building a brand and then figuring out the different income streams that are available to you along the way that could also include brand sponsorships, so many different things. Uh So many different people are gonna wanna, once you build attention, once you build a brand and you have an audience, other people are gonna wanna start paying you um to get the attention of your fans as well. Hope that was useful and I'll see you in the next video.
