Websites
Hi. In this video, we're gonna talk about websites. So a lot of artists ask me if I should have a website or not. And they say things like, oh a lot of artists I know don't have websites. And first of all, that's a good reason to have a website. You know, if everyone else isn't doing it, then maybe you should. Like I said, you know, you gotta cut through the noise somehow. But other benefits of having a website are, first of all, you're not at the mercy of the platforms. You know, if Facebook goes to zero tomorrow, if you know, Facebook goes down tomorrow, Spotify goes down tomorrow. Instagram goes down tomorrow, you'll still have your website. OK. So, and you have full control over that domain and over the content um that is on there. And as well like Facebook algorithms and Instagram algorithms change all of the time. You can't really bank on posting something on Facebook and, and all of your fans seeing it, you literally can't bank on that. Another good uh reason to have a website i...
s it makes you more googleable. OK? If that's the word that I just made up then so be it. But it makes you googleable. So if you don't have a website and people Google your artist name, yeah, they'll probably get, um they'll probably get a card on the side that has like your um Spotify link and maybe your Instagram link and stuff like that. Um But if you have your own website, your domain, you know, like your artist name.com and you've built like a simple website for yourself, that's generally gonna be the first thing that pops up on Google. And the good thing is if someone's listened to you on Spotify or they shazamed, you and dis discovered you, then they can just find you on Google as well. And when they click through to your website, you have full control over what you can offer them and the content um that they see uh on your website because it's your website, you have full control over that. Another good reason to have a website is you can sell a bunch of stuff on there. A bunch of merchandise. You can set up a Shopify store and sell t-shirts and stuff like that. Very easy to do nowadays. Ok. And a lot of it is very little uh upfront cost as well. Uh Popular website building platforms that are relatively easy to use are um squarespace, very popular. Um Wix uh Band Zole as well, which is specifically for uh musicians. There's also wordpress, which is a bit more difficult, but um it's a bit more advanced than the other platforms, but either way, just choose the one that is the right bit for you and start building the content that's on there over time. Another benefit as well is you can start to build an email list. Email marketing is just as important as ever because like I said, like we can't control how many people are gonna see the posts that we make on Facebook. Cos it's just kind of up to Facebook really. It's kind of up to their ever changing algorithms who sees what and, and when, but if you build an email list over time, the risk is, uh, there's less risk because they're gonna get that email, you know. Yeah, it might get filtered down into updates or promotions or whatever, but it's gonna stay in their inbox until they delete it at least. So they'll definitely see it. But the way to build an email list though is you have to create an incentive and, you know, fewer people are just gonna click on it to, uh, or just gonna opt in without an incentive. So you gotta offer them a little incentive. You gotta offer them maybe, you know, a free song or any free stuff, just something that will entice them uh to share their email address with you. And then when you've got a new single coming out or a new song or a new, uh, piece of merchandise coming out, you could just email it out and um you know, get some results. So anyway, those are just a few reasons why um artists should definitely consider um building a website that's useful and I'll see you in the next video.
